Welcome! My name is Scott Masson, and I just earned my teaching certificate in early 2025. This area of my website is a hub for districts / schools to review my professional background and work experience, as well as a place for me to post my written reflections on art instruction, classroom strategies, and the evolving philosophy that guides my work as an educator.

For over two decades, Scott Masson has cultivated a diverse and extensive career in visual, audio, and written communications. With a robust foundation in the arts and education, he has seamlessly integrated these passions into various professional roles, including artist, musician/composer, record producer / engineer, substitute teacher, lecturer, and educational consultant. His multidisciplinary expertise is underpinned by a commitment to fostering creativity-through-curriculum, critical thinking, and student empowerment within a broad range of educational settings.

Educational Background and Continuous Learning

Masson graduated from Kalamazoo College with a bachelor's degree in Art and English, establishing a strong academic foundation that continues to influence his professional pursuits. His dedication to lifelong learning is evident through his continuous engagement in personal enrichment courses (art and graphic design) at Wayne State University, and intensive teacher-training through Schoolcraft's ARC Program, ensuring that his knowledge and skills always remain at the forefront of cutting-edge contemporary practices.

Throughout his career, Masson has amassed a wealth of experience across various domains:

  • Educator and Lecturer: With extensive experience teaching and lecturing students at the K-12 level, Masson is deeply invested in educational strategies that develop student literacies and foster critical thinking. His teaching philosophy emphasizes rigorous writing and reading, creativity, exploration within the fine art classroom and graphic design lab, and elevating students with special needs. Masson earned his teaching certificate through Schoolcraft's ARC Program, and plans on obtaining his special ed endorsement and master’s degree.

  • Freelance Consultant: For nearly a decade, Masson has worked as a freelance consultant, delivering creative solutions to a diverse clientele. His projects have included designing identity packages for small businesses, engineering and producing music, licensing and writing music for commercial applications, photo and design element manipulation (from concept to post-production), album and advertising material development, and web, print, social media, video, and artistic content creation.

  • Musician and Record Producer: Masson is best known as the singer/songwriter for the band OFFICE, who achieved modest national success during the 2000s. His musical career extends into engineering and producing musicians, composing jingles for advertising campaigns, and film-scoring / sound design. All of this experience showcases his ability to blend artistic vision with technical expertise.
